A Pittsburgh Proposal: Amanda and Parker

Chapter One: Two Different People, One Good Thing

Amanda and Parker are proof that two people don't have to be alike to make a pretty good team.

Amanda is a certified Swiftie, a proud cat mom, a Subaru driver, and someone who will gladly cheer on women doing just about anything. Parker, an IUP graduate, loves football and just about every other sport you can think of. He's the kind of guy who can strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, and before long, they're discussing quarterbacks, playoff predictions, and why their favorite team should have won last Sunday.

Now, you might wonder how these two ended up together.

Well, like a lot of couples these days, they decided to give online dating a try. After a few swipes that didn't exactly inspire much excitement, they came across each other. A conversation led to a first date, and that was pretty much all it took. Whatever they had been looking for, they'd found it.

They were locked in.

As they spent more time together, Amanda and Parker found their own little rhythm. They enjoy putting puzzles together, taking evening walks along Pittsburgh's riverfront, and cheering on the Penguins and Pirates. And anyone familiar with Pittsburgh sports knows that being a loyal fan isn't always easy. There are wonderful seasons, painful seasons, and those years when it's probably best not to talk about it. But these two keep showing up.

Then there's Friday.

Friday is pizza night, and judging by how seriously they take it, you might as well put it on the calendar as a national holiday. Fifty-two celebrations a year, all centered around a good pizza and spending time together. Not a bad arrangement, really.

And that's what makes their relationship so enjoyable. They don't need to have something big planned every weekend. They're perfectly happy with a puzzle on the table, a game on television, or a walk when the weather cooperates. They've found that the ordinary parts of life can be pretty wonderful when you've got the right person beside you.

Amanda has her music, Parker has his sports, and somehow, between the two, they've built a life that suits them both.

Chapter Two: Mexico, a Little Disappointment, and a Very Happy Ending

Now, Amanda had been hoping Parker might be getting ready to ask a rather important question.

So when the two planned a trip to Mexico, she had every reason to be excited. A romantic vacation, beautiful surroundings, and plenty of opportunities for Parker to get down on one knee. She was convinced this might finally be it.

Only it wasn't.

The days went by, the vacation continued, and that engagement ring never made an appearance. As if that weren't enough, Amanda even got to watch another couple get married while they were there.

Imagine that. You travel all the way to Mexico hoping to get engaged, and somebody else ends up having the wedding.

Humbug!

But Parker wasn't nearly as far behind as Amanda thought. In fact, he already had a plan. He knew he wanted to marry her, and he had something special in mind. Amanda just didn't know when it was coming.

Not long after their trip, Parker finally put that plan into motion.

Amanda could tell something was going on. When you know someone as well as these two know each other, it's not always easy to keep a secret. She had her suspicions, but that didn't make the moment any less meaningful.

And when Parker finally got down on one knee and asked Amanda to marry him, the look on her face was something else. That smile said more than either of them probably could have put into words.

The wait was over. She was getting married to her favorite person.

Their Pittsburgh engagement session with Portraits by Sean was a chance to celebrate that next chapter, but also to appreciate the life they've already built. A life that began with two people taking a chance on a dating app and grew into something neither would want to be without.

There will certainly be more Pittsburgh sporting events, more Taylor Swift, more puzzles spread across the table, and plenty of Friday nights spent deciding what toppings belong on the pizza. Some days will be exciting. Others will be quiet. And every once in a while, the Pirates might even give them something to celebrate.

But that's the nice thing about Amanda and Parker. They genuinely enjoy being around each other, even when there's nothing particularly exciting going on.

And after all, isn't that what so much of marriage is about? Finding someone you'd be happy to spend an ordinary Friday night with, and then getting to do it for the rest of your life.

Congratulations, Amanda and Parker. Here's to many happy years together, and may Friday always be pizza night.
