A Willowbrook Wedding in Volant, Pennsylvania | Gina & Murray

Chapter One: A Little Help From Lennie

Sometimes the most important people in our lives arrive when we least expect them. And sometimes, it takes a four-legged friend to make the introduction.

In October 2023, Murray le Roux, a South African working remotely while traveling the world, arrived in New Orleans for a six-week adventure. Around the same time, Gina Spampinato had moved from Colorado, looking for a fresh start and a chance to be closer to her sister. By pure coincidence, the two rented separate apartments in the same duplex, sharing a backyard neither knew would change their lives.

One evening, their paths crossed during a gathering with friends. Murray immediately noticed Gina, but nerves got the better of him. Rather than introduce himself, he befriended her dog, Lennie. As it turned out, Lennie had considerably more confidence than Murray.

A few days later, Lennie greeted Murray with an enthusiastic kiss on the front steps. Gina followed, and what began as a simple conversation stretched into hours of laughter and wine. When the wine ran out, Murray hurried down the street for another bottle. He wasn't about to let a good thing end over something as small as an empty bottle.

Eventually, Gina decided to speed things along with a simple question: "Do you wanna make out?"

And just like that, a remarkable love story began.

For the next two weeks, New Orleans became their playground. There were adventures, laughter, and the wonderful feeling of discovering someone who made ordinary days extraordinary. But Murray's visit was ending. At the train station, Gina handed him a farewell letter that ended with six unforgettable words: "You brought me back to life."

They both cried, uncertain whether they would ever see one another again.

Fortunately, neither was very good at letting go.

Phone calls stretched for hours, sometimes eight at a time. Within a month, Murray boarded a flight to Colorado, where Gina greeted him by jumping into his arms. Over the following year, they traveled between America and South Africa, sharing family traditions, discovering new places, and learning that love could survive nearly anything, including international flights, immigration paperwork, and the occasional disagreement over competitive games.

There were setbacks, particularly when Murray's attempt to secure a work visa fell through. But the disappointment brought clarity. He didn't simply want to live closer to Gina. He wanted to build a life with her.

By February, Murray had a ring, the blessing of Gina's parents, and a plan to propose in Pittsburgh's Frick Park. Unfortunately, a rare sunny winter afternoon had brought half the city outdoors. Searching for privacy, he led Gina down a secluded trail that turned out to be a muddy disaster.

After slipping and stumbling through the woods, they found a mostly dry rock overlooking Pittsburgh. There, muddy shoes and all, Murray finally asked Gina to marry him, with a humorous reference to the question that had started everything in New Orleans.

This time, the answer meant forever.

Chapter Two: An Entire World at Willowbrook

Some weddings bring two families together. Gina and Murray's brought together people from around the world.

After what felt like a dozen trips to the airport, everyone had finally arrived in Pennsylvania. The celebration began with a rehearsal dinner at the house, where wonderful food, familiar faces, and long-overdue conversations filled the evening. Murray's father welcomed everyone with a heartfelt introduction, setting the tone for a weekend that was as much about family as it was about marriage.

The following morning, sunlight slowly opened across Willowbrook, a beautiful countryside wedding venue in Volant, Pennsylvania, north of Pittsburgh. Originally established as Rustic Acres Farm in 2014, the property underwent extensive renovations between 2022 and 2024 before becoming Willowbrook. Named for its graceful willow trees and flowing brook, the estate's gardens and rolling landscape made it a wonderful setting for their celebration.

Inside the bridal house, preparations were well underway. The thoughtfully designed space allowed the wedding parties to remain close while preparing on separate sides. There is something wonderfully chaotic about a wedding morning. Everyone has a job, someone is always looking for something, and somehow it all comes together. Gina and her ladies made sure every strand of hair was in place, while Murray's brothers helped him with his tie. Between the laughter, excitement, and last-minute adjustments, two people were getting ready for one of the most important moments of their lives.

Before the ceremony, Gina and Murray shared a private first look, a quiet opportunity to enjoy each other's company before the celebration began.

Soon, guests took their seats as the wedding procession made its way toward Willowbrook's distinctive outdoor ceremony setting. Beneath a vine-covered, gazebo-like structure, an elegant chandelier hung overhead, bringing an unexpected touch of sophistication to the Pennsylvania countryside.

Murray's sister, Liza, served as officiant, and it was clear she had done her homework. With warmth, humor, and confidence, she spoke as though she were having a conversation with old friends. Her words drew everyone into Gina and Murray's story, reminding them just how remarkable the journey had been.

The couple exchanged deeply personal vows, speaking openly about their love and admiration for one another. There was no need to hide their emotions. They were proud of each other, and everyone was invited to share in that happiness. After a kiss and a memorable little ring-exchange remix, the newlyweds made their way back down the aisle.

And wouldn't you know it, the rain finally decided to join the party.

Fortunately, everyone was already moving inside.

The reception brought more laughter, touching stories, and a few wonderful lessons about the newlyweds. Because Murray's family rarely has the chance to gather in one place, several relatives shared memories, offering everyone a better understanding of the people and experiences that shaped his life.

Gina's matron of honor, Lisa Herman, was equally memorable. Her words revealed something heard throughout the evening. Gina was loyal, fiercely protective of those she loved, and always willing to stand up for others. Looking around the room, it was clear that the care she had given so freely throughout her life had found its way back to her.

Following the parent dances, the celebration took on a life of its own. The dance floor filled with friends and relatives from different corners of the world, and the dancing seemed as though it might never end.

For one beautiful evening at Willowbrook, distance no longer mattered. Everyone was together, celebrating two people whose unlikely meeting had connected lives across continents.

And somewhere in all that happiness was a simple reminder. Sometimes the longest journeys lead us exactly where we belong.

For Gina and Murray, it all started with Lennie.

A Personal Note from Sean

A special thank you to Noah le Roux for helping me document this beautiful wedding. His additional photographs helped round out the story and capture moments from another perspective. The young man has a great eye and some real talent. It was a pleasure having him contribute.
