Patrick and I decided early that we wanted a journalistic style to our wedding photographs. We had interviewed other photographers, but the chemistry among us just wasn't there. When we sat down with Sean, we knew immediately that he would be our photographer -- not only because of his experience, but also because of the way he engaged us. It was as if Sean went to work immediately observing the way Patrick and I interacted with each other and our environment. He never tried to sell us his services. He didn't have to. His pictures sell themselves. Because Sean was so easy to talk to and really heard us both as individuals and as a couple, we knew that we would be able to be ourselves around him on our wedding day. He took photographs of me putting my makeup on alone in the bathroom and of my mom helping Patrick with his suutcase. We trusted him completely with our most intimate moments and the unstaged images of the day are a valuable gift. Some of the best photos are the ones that were taken from behind us capturing the day from our point of view, and the ones that were taken when we weren't looking at the camera but laughing with family and friends over a glass of champagne or a stolen kiss. Sean is amazing. From the moment we initially spoke I knew that my wedding day would be captured just as we wanted. Sean met us at our venue months before the big day to get the “lay of the land” and to allow us to walk him through various pictures/backdrops that we absolutely had to have. He remained flexible throughout the process, including with pricing and came up with a custom package that worked for us and our budget. During every meeting Sean arrived early, including the big day, which helped to keep me (the bride) calm. Sean captured moments during the wedding ceremony that we would never have been able to see – guests genuine happiness for us during the ceremony, intimate moments between me and my husband (and I had no idea he was there taking the picture). When it was time to take the staged photos, Sean was patient while directing groups of people and was flexible and took a large impromptu group shot with 30 or so family members that we decided we wanted at the last minute. Sean was great throughout the event, he was not intrusive and most of the time I didn’t even notice he was there. During the reception, once again Sean delivered, capturing amazing moments of guests dancing, others hanging out by the bar, others crying during speeches and others enjoying themselves at their tables throughout the night. Because the pictures came out so great and Sean was able to get pictures of all of our guests at various moments throughout the night, we were able to surprise our guests with pictures of themselves during the wedding/reception. We had an amazing venue, Phipps Conservatory, with an evening ceremony and nighttime reception, lit with candlelight…it was beautiful and Sean captured that beauty in his pictures. I am sure it was not easy to have the perfect lighting for pictures in a dark area, but Sean did it and the pictures are gorgeous! When my husband and I looked through the pictures after the big day, we were amazed at all of the moments that we didn’t see that night, but were so grateful to Sean for capturing them because it allowed us to be guests at our wedding and see the event from their vantage point. “While many people are OK with taking casual snapshots at a rehearsal dinner, It was really important to us to have professional photography at this event since it was the only intimate setting in which we could spend time with the friends and family in our wedding party. We were so pleased that Sean Means was available to shoot for us that evening. We were impressed with the quality of his work that we saw on his website, and he did not disappoint the evening of our event. We discussed our preferences for the evening in advance (e.g., candid shots that followed a timeline of the event) and on the night of the event, Sean took control. Sean was incredible and really captured the shots we wanted. Well before the wedding we met with him to discuss the types of photos we would like to see and also give him some background on our relationship. This was helpful because he used that information to tailor amazing pictures that told our story and create connections in his photos. During the wedding Sean was very active and able to move around the venue to find new angles that showed the people and the environment. He came equipped with lights and gadgets that really enhanced the final product and gave everything a very professional feel. Communication was perfect with Sean and he was able to direct the bridal and grooms parties and family effortlessly during photo sessions. This was important because working in a high pressure environment and short time windows can be stressful if the photographer involved is not creative, resilient, and a good instructor.
