I. Same Page, Different Places

Cortney is from a small town in Mississippi. Mavis is straight out of New York. Two different worlds, two different speeds. But when they met in Pittsburgh, it clicked.

Simple as that.

Early on, Cortney paid attention. Mavis mentioned she loved flowers, and he made a move that mattered. He took her to Phipps Conservatory. Thoughtful, easy, no extra noise.

From there, everything flowed. Sports, comedy specials, hip hop debates that probably still don’t have a winner. Real conversations, real connection.

That’s what engagement photography in Pittsburgh is supposed to feel like. Natural. Unforced. Just two people being themselves.

II. He Had It Lined Up

Mavis thought she had Cortney figured out.

She didn’t have a clue.

He kept it casual. Told her they were just spending time together. Nothing major. Meanwhile, he had already planned everything.

At one point, she tried to reschedule. Life happens. But Cortney stayed smooth, kept things on track, and never tipped his hand.

Inside the Broderie Room at Phipps Conservatory, Mavis walked a few steps ahead like it was just another day.

She reached back for his hand.

Nothing there.

She turned around.

And yeah… she was completely surprised.

You could see it instantly. Shock, excitement, all of it at once. No script. Just one with the other and a life ahead.
